Common Questions

  • How did your program originate?

The program was created to provide a personalized, project-based, and competency-assessed education experience for all students. WAY was founded to provide an experience aligned with emerging trends in education involving integration of 21st Century skills, competency-based assessments, and the works of prominent voices in education.
  • How do I know if WAY is right for me?

We offer enrollment to youth of all ages, from middle school to high school who are looking to think outside the classroom in one of our various programs, academies, or online offerings. WAY encourages each student, parent, or education professional to speak with a representative who will facilitate the choice of model to be pursued, or contact WAY directly using this contact form.
  • How does WAY differ from other educational programs?

The WAY learning community is built upon the interests of students, so that they can earn credits with a focus on cross curricular, project-based blended learning (a combination of traditional face-to-face classroom methods and more modern computer-mediated activities) that draws upon what motivates them. Our online community is available 24 hours per day and 7 days per week, giving you an opportunity to work at your pace. WAY graduates are awarded a high school diploma from their respective school district.
  • What tools do I need to be in this program?

Each student in a WAY Program or WAY Academy is provided with a computer workstation at no cost to the student.
  • Do I have to go to a building every day?

No. You are expected to attend a Learning Lab two to four times per week, based upon your own schedule and lab availability. Your daily requirement is to sign in to the online community, email your mentor, and complete the tasks to which you have committed.
  • How long does it take to graduate?

That depends on the model in which you are enrolled, the amount of credits you entered with, and how motivated you are to finish! You dictate the type of projects you want to do based on the credits you need to finish and your interests.
  • How will Credits be determined?

All projects created are standards-focused. Certified teachers that are highly qualified in their content areas assess your products and learning artifacts. All projects are cross-curricular, giving you a greater opportunity to work and earn credit in more than one subject area at the same time. There are many projects available to get you started, and your mentors will help guide you through development of your project of choice/interest. Once you have completed enough content standards, you are awarded credit.
  • What happens at induction?

Induction is your WELCOME party to WAY! During this time, you will set up your equipment, learn about your learning lab, online community, and learn a little about the computer workstation with which you have been provided.
  • Do you have a prom, team sports etc…?

It depends on your campus, but we are always open for suggestions from you. Campus activities are student driven and staff supported, with limitless possibilities.
  • Do we have a graduation ceremony?

The campus leadership determines Graduation ceremonies. WAY suggests celebrations twice a year for researchers who complete their required credits.
  • What if I go on vacation? Do I have to take my computer?

We recognize that you will go out of town - let your team leader know and arrangements can be made.
